The Spiritual Life

Thanks for checking out my blog.  All posts are inspired by where my spiritual life is taking me. They are written to inspire and remind myself to apply spiritual tools to my everyday experience, but I have a feeling you will find something useful here too...

Escaping “the Rock and the Hard Place”

We all know the feeling of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.  In such situations, it seems that no matter what you choose you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t.  Of course, you never really are stuck between a rock and hard place, it just feels like it.  You never really are damned if you do, damned if you don’t, it just seems that way.  These situations come from complete reliance on the physical world to determine your experience.  However, a slight shift into the spiritual perspective will illuminate the way out.

From the spiritual perspective, every circumstance has within it the possibility for your benefit.  This is a purposeful Universe, and as such there is a purpose for your every experience.  This is an expanding Universe, and so the purpose behind your every experience is your expansion.  When you view your life in this context, the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” experiences cease because as soon as you discover how the experience will help you to learn and grow, you can make the choices that move you in the direction of that learning and growth.

There are many empowering questions you can ask yourself when you feel stuck.  What is my Soul’s purpose in this experience?  How can I use this experience to learn and grow?  How might my experience today benefit me in the future?  Craft you own variation on these questions and stick with it until you find an inspiring answer.  If you look intentionally enough, and listen deeply enough, you might be surprised as what comes to you.

A recent cold helped teach me how to be at peace in the midst of discomfort.  An experience of upset showed me how important it is for me to remain centered in love and provided me with an exceptional opportunity to practice doing so.  A frustratingly sleepless night became an opportunity for deep meditation.  I could have been sick, pissed, and tired, but I looked for my opportunity to grow instead.

Once you discover your growth opportunity, then boldly choose in that direction and watch the rocks crumble, the hard places soften, and “damned if you do’s” become the “blessed because I did’s.”

Beautiful. How much I'd love to turn "damned if you do’s” into “blessed because I did’s.”

It is completely possible. Even past experiences that were "damned if you do's" can become "blessed because I did's" today. Feel free to fill out the contact form on the Spiritual Couching page if you want to explore further.
