The Spiritual Life

Thanks for checking out my blog.  All posts are inspired by where my spiritual life is taking me. They are written to inspire and remind myself to apply spiritual tools to my everyday experience, but I have a feeling you will find something useful here too...

Grand Vision

With my pending relocation from Los Angeles to Kansas City, I’ve been involved in some deep contemplation lately.  One of main areas of contemplation has been purpose - what is my purpose in this move, what is my vision?

The most common way to evaluate this question is through the eyes of the physical world.  “I’m relocating for a lower cost of living, seasons, less traffic, etc.  My vision is a more affordable and nicer lifestyle with less stress and a slower pace of living.”  All of these are accurate, however they are very limited.  If I am moving simply to attain these physical world things, I will do so in relatively short order - but then what?

Instead, I’m looking with a grander vision.  All of the physical-world stuff will happen and will be lovely, but this adventure is about growth.  It is about allowing everything that comes into my experience to stretch my understanding of myself.  If I put my attention on the physical world stuff, I’m capped there.  There is only so much “better cost of living” to be had.  Self-discovery, however, is unlimited.  Reaching the top of the mountain in personal growth isn’t an end, it's a new vista from which you can see yet more mountains to climb!

John-Roger, the founder of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness advises to “use everything for your learning, upliftment, and growth.”  When I moved to L.A. 13 years ago, I had big ideas of physical world success.  Despite my complete lack of awareness or intention around personal growth at that time, the growth I’ve experienced has been mind-blowing.  The exact vision of physical world success my younger self had didn’t manifest, but the growth I’ve received is far more valuable.

So as I set out on this new adventure, it isn’t about a change of location, job, cost of living, or any of that.  It is about a change of paradigm.  Everything is growing me.  Everything in my experience is there for a reason and has within it the possibility of incredible growth.

What happens when a job is no longer just a job but a laboratory for self-awareness?  What happens when your intention is to recognize that every single thing in your experience is there as an opportunity for you to let go of old beliefs that no longer serve you and come to a deeper understanding of you are as a part of the Universe?  What happens when you surrender to the idea that everything is orchestrated by a limitless, loving, Intelligence with the sole purpose of helping you to see that you are the very same limitless, loving, Intelligence?

The only way to answer those questions for yourself is to jump in!

Great points, Ben. Our move is not across the country, but in many respects, as
monumental.
