The Spiritual Life

Thanks for checking out my blog.  All posts are inspired by where my spiritual life is taking me. They are written to inspire and remind myself to apply spiritual tools to my everyday experience, but I have a feeling you will find something useful here too...

It’s All About YOU

No, really.  It really is all about you, and that is a very good thing.  Here is what I mean.

There’s all the “stuff” that happens around you, and then there is your experience of it.  What actually happened and what you experienced happening are two different things.  What actually happened is completely neutral - neither right nor wrong, good nor bad.  That completely neutral event is then filtered through your consciousness to create your experience.  It’s all about you.

Everybody’s consciousness is different, which means that nobody experiences anything exactly the same way that you do.  Your experience of any event exists only within you.  This is why two people can have very different experiences of the same event.  This also means that nobody’s experience is “right” and, in fact, everybody’s experience is inaccurate compared to what actually took place.  What took place was completely unconditioned by anybody’s perceptions, but in order for you to experience it, it MUST be conditioned by yours.  It’s all about you.

So, I said this was good news.  Here’s why.  You have complete control over your consciousness and your perceptual filters.  By changing your consciousness, you will change your experience.  The events won’t change, but you will, and so will your experience of them.  Do you want more joyful experiences?  Focus on where you currently find joy in your experience.  Look for it, call it out, focus on it.  The more energy you put towards experiencing joy, the more it will color your perceptual filters and eventually, you’ll be seeing the world through joy-colored glasses.

“Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they’re yours.”
~Richard Bach

If you go through life expecting things to be hard, unfair, or designed to keep you trapped in a life that is less than you want, your consciousness will filter your every experience through that mindset and provide you with the proof that you are right!

On the other hand…

“Argue for your constantly improving live, and sure enough you’ll live it!”
~Ben Jamison

Choose to see everything as an opportunity for your learning, upliftment, and  growth.  Cultivate your consciousness by looking for the opportunity in everything.  Like anything, the more you practice the better you’ll get.  Commit to a life that works for you, a life that provides you with opportunities for growth around every corner.  Do not settle for any experience feeling only limiting, destructive, or terrible.  Look for the opportunity with enough determination and intention and you’ll see it.  “Seek and ye shall find.”  Grab hold of that opportunity and pull from it every last bit of good it holds.  Do this often enough, and you will train your consciousness to filter every experience through the mindset of “this is going to improve my life in some way.”

It’s all about you.  You get to choose what filters you use.  However only you can change your perceptual filters because, after all, it’s all about you.

Here’s to you!

Perfect blog for me today because it's my birthday. Nice birthday present Ben!
As I was reading about how our consciousness's are all different, I thought of a fingerprint and no two people have the same one. The funny thing is that as you grown older, your print doesn't work because the skin is worn...at least that was the explanation I was given when I just had my fingerprints scanned. If that is true that the skin wears away taking with it one of the things that makes us unique from the other, then maybe it can be said that as we age, what makes us singularly unique on the surface isn't important and that what's inside is what remains as the unifying lifeblood of the human...oh, and we are all one.
