The Spiritual Life

Thanks for checking out my blog.  All posts are inspired by where my spiritual life is taking me. They are written to inspire and remind myself to apply spiritual tools to my everyday experience, but I have a feeling you will find something useful here too...

Normal, Natural Abundance

This time of year is one of my favorites for grocery shopping!  Fresh produce fills the aisles of the stores and the farmer’s market tables are piled high with such variety and color.  Everywhere I look I see bounty, an overflowing goodness fruits, vegetables, flowers, and trees packet with lush leaves.  Abundance is pouring forth everywhere in nature.  Abundance is normal.  Abundance is natural.

Despite all this abundance, it can be hard to feel abundant.  We are so conditioned to perceive lack that, even when surrounded by overflow, it can be difficult to allow that overflow into our experience.  Yet, the only way we will ever experience abundance is by experiencing abundance!  And you can experience abundance right now, regardless of your bank account.  It is all around you.  You just have to open to it.

Try this:  Take a breath.  Take another.  Be greedy and take a 3rd breath.  Is the air running out?  Is your breathing taking a breath from somebody else?  Is it at all possible for you to breathe so much that the Universe cuts you off?  Of course not!  Go ahead and take another few breaths with the consciousness that you are surrounded by abundance and literally breathe it in thousands of times each day.

“Well, great Ben!  How does that help my bank account?”  Okay, how about this. I’ll give you $10,000,000.  All you have to do is stop breathing - permanently.  But, then you’d be dead and $10 BILLION wouldn’t do you any good.  Money does not equal wealth.  Money does not equal abundance.  It never has and it never will!

In the book Acres of Diamonds is the story of a man who was a “content and wealth man.  Wealthy because he was content and content because he was wealthy.”  What came first?  Contentment.  Without being content, no amount of money will ever bring you the experience of wealth or abundance.

So, divorce money from your definition of wealth and abundance.  Take a few conscious breaths and feel the priceless wealth contained in each one.  Look for the abundance all around and recognize how natural and normal it is.  Find contentment first and watch your experience change, even if your account balance doesn’t.
